Division of Erie County

The Daily News, of Bataiva, Genesee Co., NY

December 31-1889

There is talk again of a division of Erie County so that Buffalo may form a county all by itself. "The time will come," predicts the Rochester 'Herald,' "when the large cities of the State, like Rochester, Syracuse, and perhaps Buffalo, will have to be set off in counties by themselves. That is the only way to stop the difficulties that annually come up in Boards of Supervisors over equalization, and the necesssities for expending the county money. It may be that the conservatism which as a rule characterizes the gentlemen who come in from the towns prevents the waste of much money, but on the other hand, it hesitates at expenditures which are certainly needed for the proper administration of affairs." ** source: The Daily News, of Bataiva, Genesee Co., NY January 21, 1893: Crystal Niagara--Wonderful Ice Phenomena--Popular Excursion. Sunday next, January 22nd, the Erie will give all an opportunity to witness the most beautiful winter scenery at Niagara Falls ever known. Special train will leave Batavia at 10:50 a.m. Only $1.00 round trip. Passage to Canada on ice bridge free.
